Hey Houston natives, locals and visitors! Looking for a great Girls DAY Out, or a perfect me-time escape? I recently spent several hours in Rice Village with one of my best girls, Julie, and I have to say, a DAY out may just be the new NIGHT out. Rice Village is a historic (since 1938) outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment district just west of Rice University featuring more than 40 retail and restaurant options including Athleta, Kendra Scott, Bluemercury, Lily Rain, Urban Outfitters and D’Amico’s Italian Market Café. For our girls day, we started with lunch at hot spot Helen, and treated ourselves to a mid-day glass of wine over a delicious Greek lunch. Helen is quaint and tiny, and serves up delicious drinks & food, so naturally it’s always hopping. They DO take reservations, so I highly recommend making them so you can get the time you are looking for. What to eat? The Green-N-Cheese Pie is probably my favorite item on the menu, as are the Blistered Banana Peppers, if you like a little spice. And yes, they ARE spicy, but I looooove it!
Next up, we headed over to Bluemercury, and I can’t believe it was my fist time in this store. It’s new and shiny and bright and friendly and full of the biggest and best beauty brands, as well as some I haven’t heard of before. After walking around and perusing the candles, makeup and products galore, I had my makeup done by one of their talented artists on the team. Everyone who works at Bluemercury is also a makeup artist, so you know you’ll be in good hands. (Also be sure to check out their beauty blog and website for great tips & discounts!)
We decided to go with this bold red lip and cat eye look because my hubby and I were heading to the opera that night, and I was planning on wearing a black and red dress. I LOVE the way the look turned out. She used a combination of Nars and Laura Mercier. The best part of Bluemercury is the artists can draw from all of the brands they carry to create your own customized look.
Final stop on our well overdue and deserved day of girl time was Stylingbar for an updo – which I chose over one of their popular blowouts because of our evening plans. And not only did I have Rees put in some curls (Rees is the MAN by the way – – I headed back to see him for color two days later!) but owner Claudie did my messy updo which I loved.
We had a blast, and if you follow along with me on Instagram, I instastoried all along the way so hopefully you thought it was as fun as I did!
Thanks SO much to the team at Rice Village for such a great afternoon of beauty and friendship – the best combo! PS: They also recently announced the addition of Hopdoddy Burger Bar and Shake Shack, both scheduled to open in 2017, so PREPARE!
