Two days away from the *official* start of summer, but I’ve been really getting into the spirit of summer and enjoying the break from the hustle. I remember summer seeming endlessly long, and gasp!, even boring as a child, and that’s EXACTLY what I want for my kiddos. We are doing some camps here and there, but mostly we’re found by the pool or in our backyard playing badminton. It’s truly time to chill out (well, we’re in Houston, so there’s NOTHING chill about summer, but you know what I mean!) and give up the schedule, the watches, the STRESS.
I’ve also backed way up on my overall getting-ready routines, keeping it to the simple basics, and I’m loving it. Here’s my simple summer routine in 3 easy steps for Hair, Skin & Clothing:
Hair. First of all – I chopped it off! It was hard for me to decide how to cut it, since I had been growing it out for so long. But I basically looked like a scraggly mermaid, so a chop was necessary. I LOOOVE the way it turned out. If you are in the Houston area, I highly recommend Q the Salon in Montrose. I had my hair done by Rees and he is so talented and fun to talk to. The salon is a little oasis of relaxation and they’ve even done Anna Wintour’s hair before, #fangirl.
The length is long enough for a pony tail still (phew!), but took a ton of weight off. I’m also a HUGE fan of dry shampoo, my #1 go to this summer is Shampure from Aveda. It smells sooo good and really adds body and texture. It is a WHITE powder, but brunettes do not be afraid – it absorbs quickly and does not leave behind any residue. There is even a dry conditioner which I just started to use, too.
Second, Skin. Surprisingly given the humidity factor, my skin dries out a lot in summer, thanks to large doses of sunscreen, chlorine from the pool, and lots of quick showers. Beyond my always-constant Skinceuticals CE Ferulic antioxidant, I’ve been using Derma E Hydrating Day Creme with Hyaluronic Acid for an extra boost of moisture. I’m new to the hyaluronic acid train – it’s described as a ‘moisture magnet’, capable of retaining up to 1000 times its own weight in water.
For makeup, I’ve also waaaaaay backed up on my routine. My go-to after my skin care is the Confidence in a Compact from IT Cosmetics (I wear it in Medium). It’s a creamy foundation with 50+ sunscreen & a super serum regenerative concentrate all added in. It’s a beautiful amount of sheer coverage PLUS all the good stuff to keep your skin healthy and protected. I add a quick sweep of the It Cosmetics Confidence In Your Glow (I wear it in Natural). It’s so easy!
I just mentioned a bunch of great products that I’m using – here’s a clickable / shop-able list:
