And….cue the wind! This picture is at the Scenic Outlook off of Highway 71, about halfway between Houston and Austin on our quick stop during my Girls Getaway with Megan and Julie. It’s October here in south Texas, but it’s still very warm (hot), and on this particular day, the hill country breezes were in full effect and added some (natural) drama to our scarf photos. You’ve heard me talk about Manoosh scarves before because 1) scarves are one of my uniform staples 2) they are made by a Houston local, inspired by art, and as soft & luxurious as can be, and now 3) they make a great traveling companion. They are very big in size and work as a cozy throw to warm you up on cold planes or on a road trip as a cozy pillow.
Jump ahead a couple of hours and we’re settled into the beautiful Four Seasons hotel and ready to enjoy Austin. First stop: Barton Springs, the first time there for all three of us. This place is kind of like magic, I’m just saying. The natural spring water pool is in the middle of Zilker Park, kind of tucked away in a hilly and wooded area. There’s an easy parking lot and the cost to enter the pool is $3 for residents, $8 for non-residents.
We were warned that the water is cold, but woah: it was definitely the coldest water I’ve ever jumped into. It felt so clean and fresh, though, and I spent probably three minutes or so floating and treading water. I’m not the strongest swimmer, and it’s very deep, so after a few minutes, I headed for the edge and could barely catch my breath! I seriously was huffing and puffing for about five minutes. Talk about a workout! If you want a huge laugh and to see what a little chicken I was, be sure to read Megan’s post. I just laughed so hard I cried reading it.
The scarves make a great lightweight coverup, too. Hanging out on the side with my feet in the water may be more my style next time…but I’m happy I did it, and you should definitely check it out, too. Be sure to put Barton Springs on your must-do list the next time you are in Austin, and check out Manoosh’s gorgeous fall lineup. The shop is offering 25% off and free shipping now – October 25th, too.
