It’s that time of year – family picture season! We love family pictures and try to have them done at least once a year, usually in the fall so we can send out a personalized Christmas card. I met Houston based photographer Christi Minter a few months ago when she was photographing a DEFINE class. She does such amazing work for DEFINE and her other clients that I asked if she could take new head shots for me and do our annual family photos. Lucky (for us!) Christi had some time in her calendar and we were able to schedule a photo session for early October.
It was such a gorgeous fall morning in Texas when we met up with Christi. She selected a beautiful location near the Medical Center with fountains, grass, trees, and picture-perfect dappled sunlight.
And of course, our little two year old refused to be photographed and was stage-five clinging to my husband.
So instead of scrapping the session or worrying about timelines or forcing the kids into anything, Christi said to just let them run around a little and play.
And being the wild little boys they are, they picked up some sticks.
Within a few minutes of us all playing together it was smiles and laughter all around. This one of me and Bennett just melts my heart and makes me think about our first (professional) picture together when he was only nine months old. We both look a little older, but it’s the same “cheek-cheek” connection with my little love.
Graham and my husband are too cute together. Graham is such a daddy’s boy. He just loves his daddy! (I do, too).
We were all together laughing and being so silly and Christi just captured all the sincere emotion and joy in these pictures. This is the true talent of photographers – they let you relax and be yourself, and they are there to capture your true energy. Nothing is forced or staged. It’s real and true. We decided to use the one below for our Christmas card picture this year because it just makes me smile every time I look at it. I just love love love my family.
A big thank you to Christi for a wonderful experience. We can’t wait to hang these pictures on the walls in our new Texas home!
Be sure to check out her website for more gorgeous examples of her work, and get in touch with her if you are in the Houston area. You will be so happy, I promise! xo
