This week’s LuxeLocal feature is Adara Medical Spa, a medical spa started by the board-certified dermatologists of Dermatological Association of Texas, Houston’s premier dermatology practice known for offering the most current medical, surgical and cosmetic skin care available today. The state-of-the-art facility offers a wide range of invasive and non-invasive cutting edge treatments including injectables, CoolSculpting, HydraFacial and Ultherapy, as well as leg vein treatments and massage therapy.
They partnered with local firm, MC2 Architecture to create the all white interior. The moment you step through the doors you are in a gorgeous modern and serene space. The combination of medical doctors combined with the ethereal esthetic of the spa-like atmosphere, creates the most relaxing yet professional medical spa, much more spa than med in my opinion.
After a consultation looking at my skin and talking through my concerns (brown spots from sun damage and redness around my nose), we decided to do an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) Photofacial. IPL is beneficial for boosting collagen while reducing redness from rosacea and brown spots from sun damage. We all know that beauty is much more than skin deep, but I will say my self-consciousness about my sun damage has been an issue on my mind for a couple years now, but I was too nervous to try any treatments. This is where the highly trained team makes Adara so special. Randee, the RN who did my procedure is incredibly sweet and nurturing. She talked me through the entire process so I was never surprised about what to expect. She made sure I was comfortable and feeling good throughout my entire appointment.
IPL is quick and easy. I reclined in a comfy spa bed for the five minute procedure. Randee spread a thick cold gel on my face and applied the laser to each section of my face – forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. The laser is bright and there is a brief ZAP, but it’s not very painful. The second it is over there is no pain at all. To put it in perspective, an eyebrow wax is way more painful. I had one particular spot on my left cheek that has been quite noticeable for a few years, so she spent some extra time on that puppy. You may notice I just said “had”…yep, after my facial the dime-sized brown spot has faded away. I liked the results so much that I plan to keep up with IPL every few months.
After my IPL, the esthetician, Elizabeth, touched up my makeup. She is so talented and sent me home looking better than I arrived! Adara has a retail section where they carry some great skin and makeup products. They sent me home with tons of samples to try out based on what they recommend for my skin type. There was no pressure to buy any specific product, however, two that I sampled have become instant favorites. The first is Glo Minerals Redness Relief, a yellowish mineral powder that instantly takes the redness out of my skin, especially on my nose and cheeks. How haven’t I had this before? I love it. The second new product Adara introduced me to is EltaMD UV Clear broad-spectrum SPF 46 sunscreen has 9% true UV blocking zinc but spreads in like a dream, not all white and gloppy like the other products I’ve tried. This is probably the most important new product added to my daily lineup. As much as IPL can help to reduce the visible effects of my sun damage, the best bet is to not get sun damage in the first place by using a high-quality sunscreen. This product is well worth the investment because it is truly blocking harmful rays from absorbing into my skin. If you are in the market for a new sunscreen I highly recommend you try Elta MD!
Thank you so much to the team at Adara for welcoming me into the world of medical spas with such hospitality. I can’t wait to come back soon.
