I love the look of vintage look silhouettes, and I’ve looked around on Etsy and other places to have them done digitally for the boys before, but I’m so glad I waited until I found Houston’s own Cindi Harwood Rose. Cindi spent years at Disney where she taught herself to hand cut silhouettes, the ancient French way of looking and cutting, without preliminary sketches, in one minute or less. It’s pure artistry.
You simply can’t believe what Cindi can do using actual paper and scissors to create silhouettes. She perfectly captured the sweet round two-year-old cheeks of Graham just like a photograph would do. And my Bennett – he looks like a little man already. The details on the silhouettes are incredible. Teeny tiny cuts in the paper create eyelashes, little pieces of hair sticking up, even button holes in shirt collars.
It all happened SO FAST that when she held up the first one I couldn’t believe my eyes. She takes maybe two minutes to do each silhouette, even with the boys wiggling around and talking. Cindi is an incredibly lovely and sweet woman. The whole time she is cutting she is sure to make sure everyone is enjoying the experience.
We met her and had our silhouettes done when she did a special in-store appearance at Fundamentally Toys in Rice Village. Cindi does weddings and other special events, including fundraisers – how incredible and special would it be to have her at your own party? Be sure to follow her on facebook so you can keep up to date with all of her special appearances around Houston, including events in Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, New York and LA.
I can’t wait to hang these up in our new home as part of a gallery wall. I purchased the silhouettes and frames directly from Cindi – the black round frame she offers completes the vintage look.
Thank you, Cindi! I am going to treasure these silhouettes forever. xo
