Our favorite bedtime story right now is Animal Boogie, a cute story about animals dancing in the jungle. The story includes a CD that you can play to hear the song version of the story, or you can watch an animated version on a computer. My boys go crazy for the Shake-Shake-Boogie-Woogie-Oogie! chorus, dancing and laughing every time. The CD is great for when you need to burn off a little energy (get out the maracas!), and the repetitive chorus is easy and memorable for the kids to read along with you.
The publisher of Animal Boogie, Barefoot Books, is an independent children’s publisher specializing in multicultural stories, puzzles, and games. I recently learned about Barefoot Books from Helen Tadeo, a Bay Area stay at home mom who runs her own Barefoot Books business. As a former educator herself, she credits Barefoot Books with the opportunity to share unique books with her family and community while being able to care for her young daughter at home. YAY for mom-friendly companies! I’m always happy to feature organizations that support families, especially one like this that promotes reading.
You may even have a few Barefoot Books on your shelves already – coincidentally, our monthly BabbaBox included a copy of Port Side Pirates and our Citrus Lane subscription included a tractor puzzle. (I just love when things come together – don’t you?) The few Barefoot Books that we have are beautiful books with vibrant pictures and fun story lines. I’ve spent some time on their website and looking through their catalogue and have quite a few books on our wish list, including a few of these nature themed books and this world atlas.
Helen is very generous and not only provided my boys with our copy of Animal Boogie, but is also offering 20% off any online purchase through December 31, 2013. To order, go to Helen’s personalized website and enter DISCOVER at checkout. Shipping is free on orders over $60, so consider stocking up for holiday gifts. Please contact Helen though her website for more details, including learning how to be an ambassador yourself, or how to plan a Barefoot home party, book fair, or fundraiser.
xo Happy Reading!
