Parenting styles vary and the guidelines from professionals seems ever-changing, but one piece of advice that remains constant from pediatricians and parenting gurus alike is to read with your children. Read, read, and read some more.
We recently added a new book to our library when we were sent a complimentary copy of This House Needs A Mouse by author (also a father, psychotherapist and professor!) C. Jeffrey Nunnally. The story follows an ambitious Mouse who is looking for purpose and order in his life, and finds the perfect match in a family’s crumb-filled house. They have a toddler who enjoys “Qwackers”, need I say more? This domestic bliss is short-lived, however. Through a series of comical events, the Mouse eventually finds his happily ever-after, and a family of his own.
The story is aimed at 3 to 8 year olds and is full of fun rhymes and purposeful repetition. It is perfect for budding readers, in fact my older son confidently read it to my younger son on the first pass. It’s also a great read-aloud story as there is plenty of drama and fun language to emphasize. The illustrations are child-like and artistic, and follow all of the emotion and excitement of the story.
We really enjoy reading this story together and happy to share this new find with all of you. You can purchase your own copy of This House Needs a Mouse via the author’s website, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Big Tent Books.
Thanks so much to the team at This House Needs a Mouse – we’re happy to be on this crumb-hunting adventure with you.
