When I found out that I had been chosen as a host of the 2017 Disney Play Dates, I literally squeeeeeeed with joy! Our family just returned from our first trip to Epcot followed by a Disney cruise to the Bahamas, and my boys are head-to-toe full of the Magic. From Mickey to Star Wars, and everything in between, the magic is real!
We received a HUGE package in the mail from Disney and found Star Wars suitcase (yes, suitcase!) filled to the brim with party supplies. Cups, napkins, plates, invitations – – – cupcake toppers, you name it. We literally had a party in a box, and it was up to us to host a play date with some friends. You can see unboxing live video that we made at the bottom of the page.
And how perfect that my little boy’s birthday was in a couple of weeks, so our Disney Play Date was able to be a themed birthday party. Our party went down without a hitch. It was a warm day, all of our little friends were happy and healthy, and they swam their little hearts out, hopefully sending them home nice and tired. 🙂
Here are our 5 Tips for making a birthday party an easy, fun success:
Tip 1: Choose an easy venue. We live in the Houston area of Texas, so it’s downright summer weather here, and therefore we opted for the always fun Pool Party.
Tip 2: Involve your kids in the planning and decorating. In addition to our Mickey bags, cupcake toppers, and character streamers, we headed to a party store to add a few Star Wars pieces, such as table cloths and little party horns. (What are those things called?!). In addition, we found some cute pencils, erasers, notebooks & bubbles all Disney themed to put in the goodie bags. We set up a little assembly line station in our house, and both of my boys helped to fill the bags.
Tip 3: Offer easy yet fun crafts for those who want to take a break from the festivities. These Fab Fortune Tellers are a blast from the past for me. We used to make these in grade school all the time! It was a good activity for the kids to use their fine motor skills to cut and fold, and as a bonus, they were able to take their fortune teller home.
Tip 4: Keep food simple, yummy, and healthy. We went with fresh fruit cups, pizza, sliders & mini cupcakes, and lemonade & water for drinks. Iced Tea for grown ups :). The food & drink stations were all child-height so they could help themselves.
Tip 5: Enjoy & have fun! It’s a party! Relax and enjoy. Try to enlist a friend or family member to take photos during the party so you can be present and watch your kiddo’s face as their friends sing “Happy Birthday” to them. It’s a moment NOT to be behind the camera, if possible.
I want to thank the amazing team at Disney for the inspiration, fabulous supplies and content, and more than anything, for making my little boy’s birthday such a special day! We truly had a party for the memory books.
