Today I took the boys to a pop-in art studio in Houston called Art Mix. For a flat fee of $15/hour, kids can create as many art projects as they’d like, and there are tons of interesting, well organized, and seasonally-themed supplies to choose from. Kids can paint, collage, draw, cut and glue until their hearts are content all in a fun creative space.
We’ve gone to drop-in art classes before (in St. Louis and Berkeley) and liked it since my boys are two years apart and have different skill levels. A drop-in class means no specific project, so each boy can have their own creative process going on. I could barely keep up with them today! Graham spent a lot of time with glue and tiny objects like beads and googly eyes, while Bennett was busy stringing beaded bracelets and writing letters.
Here’s just a couple of our creations. We ended up taking home six projects total, and we were only there for about forty five minutes. The picture on the left is a letter Bennett wrote and decorated a letter to his daddy (the inside says: Dear Dad, Happy Fall. I love you, Bennett).
Definitely check out Art Mix if you are in the Houston area. In addition to their pop-in studio, they offer tons of art classes and camps for all ages. If you’re in another town, google “drop-in art + city name + kids” and you’re likely to find a studio that offers a similar class. If you find one you love, please let me know so we can spread the word.

That sounds like such a neat idea! I don’t have kids yet, but I’m definitely going to search to see if there is anything like that here in Atlanta. I love the concept! (I wish there was one for adults!!!!!)
We came home with two leaves too! And a bunch of other stuff!! Jewelry, paintings etc. Thanks for the reminder to go!
Let’s make a date to go together!
I must go to this with Siri! She will adore this. Sensing a Christmas gift in the works ;)!
