We just tried out the monthly subscription box from Raddish Kids, started by known foodie Samantha Barnes, the California based mom who also founded Kitchen Kid, the leading provider of edible education. Her passion for bringing cooking to the kids really shows in the Raddish Kids boxes. The inspiration behind Raddish Kids is that the two greatest gifts you can give children are 1) an appreciation of good food and 2) a childhood enjoyed around the family table. I couldn’t agree more! We love to cook healthy food and I find that the more involved my kids are in the kitchen the more they’ll try new things (especially since one of my boys is a picky eater) so I was looking forward to trying out our first box.
The kit includes the cutest apron (in your first shipment only), a patch to add to the apron, a special cooking tool appropriate for little hands, three recipe cards which equal a meal (they are laminated and full of pictures making them easy to read), a shopping list, and theme-related creative craft, a table talk card deck with conversation starters, and a skill card. Our skill card was peeling, and my little guy did a great job with the sweet potato. He felt very grown up.
What I really like about this box from Raddish Kids is that it’s created for families to spend time together in the kitchen. So many wonderful memories are created over cooking together and eating meals together, and we’re learning along the way. This box makes it so that everyone is learning: my boys are learning new words, math skills, and honing fine motor skills (like the peeling), and I learned some new recipes that we can add to our weekly meal plan. The creative craft was related to the theme but we saved it for another day as we had our hands full with making the meal. It’s nice to spread out the fun, anyhow.
A single box starts at $24, and you can select the theme you’ll receive. Or save money by signing up for a recurring subscription. Subscription boxes make the best gifts because you’re not sending toys or clothing that they’ll eventually outgrow, but an experience they’ll remember.
Thanks to Raddish Kids, we loved our first box and can’t wait to do it again.
