Hi! My name is Aileen and I have known Candace since we were in grade school almost thirty years ago (if you can believe it!) and became instant lifelong friends. I’m so grateful to have her in my life. While she is on vacation this week, she asked me to write a guest post for Luxe…With Kids. I’m a busy busy mom of two sweet girls, I run a successful home based business AND work a full-time corporate job, too! Somehow I have found the balance and want to offer three tips for success other work from home moms and/or those wanting to create a home based business.
Seven years ago I worked full time in management at a large insurance company. I loved my job but knew I would need more balance and flexibility once I had children. I was able to start my home based business, Arbonne, by incorporating a few hours per week of my free time to learning and growing my business along side my corporate job. Within one year I was able to leave my office-based management job and start working from home full time in a different role that allowed me to save time on commuting. Although being a full time mom while working two jobs sounds like a lot, my life is full of love and laughter.
1) Find something your passionate about.
You know the saying “When you love what you do, you’ll never work another day in your life”? My home based business, Arbonne, is a health and wellness company, and although I am very passionate about healthy living, my true passion is helping people. For the last seven years I’ve worked with amazing men and women from all over the world. It truly fills me with joy to teach about health and wellness and skin care. More importantly, I get to see others that I care about succeed because of my influence. Having a home based business has also given me the ability to be present in my children’s lives. I had a very clear vision of what I wanted my life to look like when I had children. With my home based Arbonne business, I’ve been able to turn my passion of helping others into a business that has flourished and forever change the course of my life!
2) Focus on personal growth and development
I think as busy moms we tend to focus on everyone else, but we will never grow into the person that we want to be if we don’t spend time focusing on ourselves. I recommend daily reading or listening to personal growth material. My favorite is to pop in a CD while I’m running errands. It’s a great way to get your head clear and have time to focus on you! I also attend conferences whenever I can to learn more skills and refocus my goals.
3) Have fun and enjoy the journey
So many times in business (and in life) we are looking for the next milestone or the next promotion. It’s so important to remember to stay grounded and enjoy the process of learning and growing. Regardless of the kind of business or busy lifestyle you have, the key is to not rush through everything just trying to check off the box. Try to embrace each day and keep your focus on the task at hand. When I am at home with my family I focus on my family – no emails or working on the computer. When I’m working, I focus on my work. I have a wonderful babysitter and my fabulous mom to keep the girls happy so I can give 100% of my attention to my job. I’m so lucky that my home-based business allows for flexible work hours. I can work early in the morning before my girls are awake, when my husband is home and after the girls go to bed, even on the weekends. Because I am doing what I love, it brings me so much energy and happiness that I bring back to my family.
Please check out my website and let me know if you have any questions about Arbonne products or the business! I’m always looking to make new connections and build relationships.
