If you are following along with my Instagram (which you totally should be by the way!), you might have noticed that we hosted our first ever lemonade stand this past weekend. We got the idea from Lemonade Day – a movement dedicated to teaching children entrepreneurial skills in a fun and practical way.
It was a hot day, and a good old fashioned lemonade stand is about as American as you can get, so I pulled out these adorable new outfits the boys received from Hipster Baby, an online store dedicated to bringing style to boys everywhere. Just this spring they added clothing for girls, too. As a boy mom, I’m thrilled that stores like Hipster Baby exist so I can find unique, fun and hip clothing for my kiddos. It’s hard to decide, but besides what my boys are wearing in these photos, this tee may be my favorite item they carry. Watch out if you have a kiddo around this age – – – you may be receiving this as a gift!
The tank tops are perfect for hot summer days, and for starting conversations. Not a single person purchased a lemonade without commenting on one or both of the sayings on their tanks. “Hello Ladies” in particular gets a ton of attention. >insert laughing and crying emoji<
B’s Americana tank is paired with some cozy knit shorts with a cool back pocket and lightening bolt pattern. G’s tank is paired with THE.CUTEST. destructed denim shorts. And what can I say about these flat-bill hats other than Hipster? Great for keeping the sun off their little faces and for looking dang cool while doing it.
This being our first lemonade stand, our supplies were pretty basic:
Lemonade mix
Lemons
Filtered water
Cups, straws, napkins, tablecloth
Pitcher
Tools: big spoon for stirring, lemon squeezer, knife & ice bucket
Ice Bucket
Money Jar
I added a sunny vase of yellow flowers for some extra pizazz.
Next year? I’m adding a cooler under the table full of ice, and a place to store our supplies (we kept running in and out of our house not wanting to keep a knife on the table). One of our neighbors even suggested we play some music from the stand. Now THAT is a party!
Overall, we made $52 after expenses, and I kind of think that’s amazing. The boys donated $20 off the top to a sea turtle conservation project at their school, and split the rest of the earnings over their share & save jars. Our first lemonade stand was a huge hit, and we all had a blast. The boys felt proud and accomplished, and looked good while doing it! I keep smiling just looking at the pictures.
Hipster Baby is going to be at the first ever Flea Style this Saturday. Flea Style is the well known upscale flea market from Dallas, and this weekend is its first time in Houston, 9am – 4pm at Silver Street Studios. Check it out and be sure to stop by Hipster Baby and tell them I sent you!
